work

Masai Mara National Park, Kenya.
5 am.

Tonight, as usual, the baboons joined the darkness of the savannah, with their excited shouts. Right after them, the hyenas came, so close I thought I could touch them. Finally, a few minutes ago, the lion roared, proud, announcing the arrival of dawn. The backpack is ready, the camera are charged, as the spare batteries. I emptied the memory cards last night and I'm ready to collect and retain the adventures that this new day will give me.

I leave the tent, I can still see a few stars, the temperature is pleasant, but I better take with me some warming clothes: the 4x4 vehicle is open and the air of the savannah comes together with the wet of the night.

In the distance, to the east, the first lights, the smells and the sounds begin to take shape. It's time to take out the camera and prepare the lenses.

At any moment, the light could reveal some hidden treasures.
I barely see in the half-light among the bushes a tuft of black hair that sways among the leaves, the silhouette of a big male lion becomes clearer at every step.

The next three hours are with him, I discreetly accompany him in his morning wandering, grateful for this privilege.
From time to time, we look at each other, as if we were accomplices, without fear. He watches me and patiently allows me to follow and immortalize him.

And suddenly peace, enchantment, wonder and freedom fill my heart and populate my photographs.

The light is my friend, it outlines the character of my shots, and it helps me to see the details, the nuances and to condense them into a frame.

This is what intrigues me, exalt me and excites me: the detail is the essence of my photography.

I keep coming back to the savannah, chasing after the thirst for details, unique moments, gradations of colors and emotions that only primordial nature can offer.
